CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – After this weekend’s deep freeze, people are still dealing with the outcome from pipes bursting and freezing.
From below 15 degrees this weekend to the lower 50’s Tuesday allows for a major thaw out. Pipes that were frozen are now not. causing flooding problems for homeowners and making the fire department extremely busy.
Deputy Fire Chief of Chicopee Fire Department Edward Marcoux told 22News, “They’ve been extremely busy we’ve had people coming in here borrowing our pumps and hoses from us we have a sign out sheet they sign out from us and get it back as soon as they can.”
If you have a flooded basement you need to be careful because of electrical wires, make sure everything is shut off.
In any apartment, even if it is vacant, make sure the heat is on at least above 40 or 50 degrees, and if pipes burst, shut off main water outlet, get your pipes fix, and begin the cleanup process.
People are finding a lot more pipes bursting now because of the warmer temperatures, a major difference from this weekend.
