“Irish Tea” gathering for young Chicopee Colleen competitors

The contestants say they're looking forward to the coronation the night of February 27th

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The committee representing Chicopee in the upcoming Holyoke St. Patrick’s parade upheld a long tradition Sunday.

The young women competing to become the Chicopee colleen gathered Sunday for a traditional “Irish Tea” to get to know one another.

Court member Jessica Welch told 22News, how much this informal gathering helps the contestants. “I think it’s really encouraging for girls to get out here and just show how confident they are and amazing and give back to the community and that’s exactly what we do.”

The contestants say they’re looking forward to the coronation ball when Shannon McAndrews’ successor will be chosen the night of February 27th.
