SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Drivers expecting to take a Sunday drive are advised to avoid I-91 south.
For the next several weeks, drivers should expect delays on Sunday afternoons on I-91 south, because of seasonal travelers returning from Northern destinations, like Vermont and New Hampshire.
It’s all because of the raised portion of the I-91 Project. Drivers should expect lane closures, which in one area will be reduced to one lane. Mass D-O-T advises drivers to avoid I-91 south all together because of expected delays. If you must travel this route, plan your trip accordingly, and give yourself more time.
One driver told 22News, traffic in the area has become a headache.
Alex Fidaliga said, “Well not happy because you have to get up early. Sometimes you have to cut corners all over town to make sure you get to your destination on time, because there’s traffic all over the place.”
The speed limit has been reduced to 40 miles per hour, because of construction. And 45 miles per hour as you approach the work area.
Remember to use caution. Speeding tickets in work zones are double the fine.
