Black ice advisory cause dangerous conditions for western Mass.

Black ice forms when the temperature is around 32 degrees or below

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – There’s a black ice advisory in place for certain parts of western Massachusetts. Cold temperatures combined with wet roads can create one of winter’s most dangerous conditions.

Melted snow on untreated roads will refreeze and create black ice. Drivers are cautioned to take it easy; black ice is hard to see, because it blends in with the road surface.

Al Pienkowski said, “Just take it easy and don’t be stupid. Four wheel drive helps you go, it doesn’t help you stop.”

Black ice forms when the temperature is around 32 degrees or below. Places that don’t see a lot of traffic like, side streets, driveways, parking lots and steps are some common places where black ice can form.
