UMass employees accused of workplace misconduct

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Five UMass Amherst employees are on paid administrative leave while the university investigates allegations of workplace misconduct.

UMass Spokesman Ed Blaguszewski told 22News the allegations involve the misreporting of time and misuse of campus resources. The investigation involves one unit in the Physical Plant division.

Blaguszewski said the value of time and materials in question is roughly $50,000. Physical Plant has an annual budget of $42 million and nearly 600 employees.

“Significant allegations were brought to our attention, and we moved quickly to investigate and take action,” said Andrew Mangels, vice chancellor of administration and finance. “UMass is the steward of public dollars and we take that responsibility very seriously.”

A sixth employee has resigned while the university addresses the matter.
