SOUTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Southampton Police are asking parents to warn their children not to get involved in criminal mischief at the mall, because it could impact the rest of their lives.
The Southampton Police Department posted their plea on the department’s official Facebook page. They cite instances where teenagers are learning a technique to stop escalators, and they said it’s an issue at the Holyoke Mall at Ingleside.
It’s no joking matter. Anyone caught doing this can be arrested and charged with a felony, and made to pay the mall thousands of dollars to repair the escalator.
Southampton Police end their warning with a dire message for parents: “We are hoping…they can avoid making a big mistake and changing their life, by being charged with a FELONY…not to mention spending some time in a jail cell.”
