Jury began deliberating in Patrick Durocher rape trial

Longmeadow native accused of raping woman outside Campus Center in 2013

Patrick Durocher listens during closing arguments during his rape trial at Hampshire Superior Court in Northampton on February 4, 2016.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A Northampton jury will decide the fate of a 20 year-old former student at the University of Massachusetts, who is accused of raping a woman on the lawn outside the Campus Center. Closing arguments were held at Hampshire Superior Court Thursday in the trial of Patrick Durocher of Longmeadow.

The December 2013 incident was witnessed by several people, and both he and the victim were allegedly very drunk at the time. Durocher’s attorney, Vincent Bongiorni, has argued that the sex was consensual, but Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Suhl argued that the victim was incapacitated, and therefore unable to give consent.

Durocher was charged with aggravated rape, kidnapping, and assault in the case. The jury is expected to begin their deliberations Thursday afternoon.
