Prisoner escaped federal custody during Homeland Security sweep

SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WWLP) – Federal authorities and local police in eastern Massachusetts have caught a prisoner who escaped federal custody during a homeland security sweep Friday morning.

According to Boston NBC affiliate WHDH-TV, Gabriel Castillo Perez, 18, was being charged with assault and carrying a dangerous weapon. He made his getaway on Linden Street in Somerville at around 6:00 A.M. He was picked up again in Everett around noontime.

He was handcuffed in front at the time of his escape. The city of Somerville had increased security at schools while the search for Castillo Perez was going on.
