Why did MassDOT issue incorrect street closures?

MassDOT will try harder to get those names correct

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has issued road-closure memos using incorrect street names. 22News spoke with Acting Highway Director Richard Masse during a meeting at the I-91 viaduct planning group Thursday night.

We asked Masse why MassDOT is sending out road closures citing east and west Main Street in Springfield, when those streets don’t actually exist. He said, “We try to use a name that people will see on those mapping systems and whether that map has the actual current correct street name. There may, on occasions, be differences in those.”

Masse said MassDOT will try harder to get those names correct, and moving forward they will use the names of streets that people will find, both online and on paper maps.
