Water main break in Greenfield caused partial road closure

It is unknown how long the road will be closed.

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Greenfield Police reported a large water main break on Davis Street Thursday morning.

Greenfield Police Sergeant David Rice told 22News Davis Street was closed from Holly Avenue to Kenwood Street while crews repaired the break, which happened near Forest Avenue. The break has since been repaired.

The Town of Greenfield Department of Public Works said water had to be shut off temporarily on Forest Avenue, but reported at 11:00 a.m. that it was turned back on.

Layne Lorenzo of Turners Falls said she knows what it’s like to have a water main break; “Oh, I feel really bad for them because I know what it was like, but, like I said, it took us three weeks before we got our water back on.”

As crews made repairs to the water main break, drivers had to take adjacent streets.
