SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A property considered an eyesore in Springfield’s Old Hill neighborhood has been taken down. The multi-family home at 523 Union Street was demolished Thursday.
It’s a city owned and tax-foreclosed property that had been abandoned several years ago. It suffered extensive damage in 2011 from the June 1 tornado and the October snowstorm.
Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno told 22News the demolition was made possible through disaster recovery funds. Regarding the future of the property, Mayor Sarno said the area will remain residential.
