SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – For the past several weeks, work on the future site of MGM Springfield has been focused on demolishing the 100-year-old Zanetti School building. Now that it’s been reduced to rubble, the community is wondering what comes next.
Springfield’s chief development officer told 22News that MGM hasn’t notified him about an upcoming demolition schedule. But he said the changing face of their neighborhood will be for the better. “It’s just an evolution of the South End,” he explained. “The south end was known for mom and pop commercial districts. We’ll it’s now going to be a big mega complex with MGM.”
Since the start of the year, the old Springfield Rescue Mission building has been vacant and ready for demolition. It’s not clear when that complex will be demolished.
