AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Amherst State Representative Ellen Story announced she plans to retire after 24 years in the legislature.
Story was first elected back in 1992 and has a been a progressive voice in The House ever since. The 74-year-old is a member of House Speaker Robert Deleo’s leadership team and is also a leader in transgender rights and pay equity for women.
Story told 22News one of the big factors in her decision to retire was the long commute between Amherst and Boston. “I almost decided not to run last term, but I was talked into running for one more term. I think this is it for me. It’s been a long time,” Story said.
She continued on to tell 22News she will not be endorsing anyone running for her seat.
