Obituary: Gloria Barbieri

Gloria May Barbieri passed away peacefully while sleeping on January 27, 2016 at the age of 85. She was born in Springfield, MA on April 20, 1930 to the late John Paren and Marian Paren (Stevens).

She was predeceased by her ex-husband Robert Barbieri (April 1991).  She resided in Springfield for most of her life, with the exception of living briefly in New York City.  She was a manager at the former J.M. Fields at the Springfield Plaza and after that at McCrory’s.  Gloria was a communicant of St. Luke’s Church.  She was an intelligent, loving woman of amazing strength and integrity.   She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her sister Louise Baldini, brothers William Paren and Robert Paren, her son John and his wife Eleni Barbieri, grandchildren Anthony, Nicholas and Gregorio, and numerous nephews and nieces.  Private services will be held at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Mount Saint Vincent’s of Holyoke, 35 Holy Family Rd., Holyoke, MA 01040, where she received amazing care from their wonderful staff. The Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
