What to watch for in the 2015 AFC title game

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The New England Patriots have dominated the league during the Bill Belichick and Tom Brady era, winning four Super Bowls and breaking countless records.

Now, heading into their tenth AFC Championship game, fifth straight, Belichick and Brady look to beat the Denver Broncos and make history once again. Already considered future hall of famers, a Super Bowl victory this season would solidify whom the best coach and quarterback combo are in NFL history.

Here are a few numbers to watch for during the AFC Championship game:

TEAM

  • New England can break a tie with Dallas and Pittsburgh for most Super Bowl berths in NFL history. The current record is 8.
  • The New England Patriots need one more postseason victory to become the fifth team in NFL history with 30 postseason wins.
    1. Pittsburgh – 34
    2. Dallas – 34
    3. Green Bay – 32
    4. San Francisco – 30

ROBERT KRAFT

  • Robert Kraft can extend his NFL record with his eighth conference championship. Pat Bowlen of Denver is second with six.

BILL BELICHICK

  • Bill Belichick has won four Super Bowls as a head coach and needs one more championship to pass Chuck Noll for most Super Bowl wins in NFL history.
  • Belichick needs to earn one more Super Bowl berth to pass Don Shula for most appearances all time. He currently has 6.

TOM BRADY

  • Tom Brady is currently tied for first with Adam Vinatieri with 30 career postseason appearances and needs to play in one more playoff game set the all-time lead with 31 postseason appearances.
  • Brady’s nine 300-yard postseason passing performances are tied with Peyton Manning for most in NFL history.
  • Brady needs one more playoff game with three-or-more touchdown passes to tie Joe Montana, who has 9, for most three-plus TD playoff games since the NFL merger.
  • Brady needs one more Super Bowl victory to break a tie with Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana for most Super Bowl wins by a quarterback in NFL history.
  • If Tom Brady wins one more Super Bowl MVP Award, he will pass Joe Montana for most Super Bowl MVP Awards in NFL history.

STEPHEN GOSTKOWSKI

  • Stephen Gostkowski has 126 in total postseason points, and currently sits tied for fifth with Emmitt Smith and Thurman Thomas, behind Adam Vinatieri (234), David Akers (175), Gary Anderson (153) and Jerry Rice (132).
