SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Fall River has announced plans to attach GPS devices to every plow owned by the city. The system will allow officials to track which streets have been cleared, and determine which areas need the most work.
John Collins of Springfield told 22News he thinks Springfield would benefit from this technology. He said, “The resources to the areas they need the plowing the most. For example, the hospitals or the major highways. And let some of the less traveled roads be taken care of after.”
According to Department of Public Works Director Christopher Cignoli, the city was unable to come to an agreement with the union over the installation of GPS devices in Springfield garbage trucks. Cignoli said he wants to install GPS devices in every DPW vehicle in the next fiscal year.
