Gospel concert held for the Brianna Fund

The latest recipients will be newcomers to America.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A MLK weekend event this Saturday evening in Springfield. For 18 years, the Brianna Fund for Children with Disabilities, have benefited from the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Gospel Concert in Springfield.

It’s being held Saturday night. Brianna Fund founder Ronn Johnson is the executive director of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community services.

Brianna’s fund is named in honor of Ronn Johnson’s daughter, Brianna, who was the first recipient almost two decades ago.

Each year since she received a van with a wheel chair lift. Dozens of deserving young people with disabilities have been help by the Brianna Fund.

The latest recipients will be newcomers to America. They are the children of a couple from Syria who re-settled in the Springfield area.

On Saturday night, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Springfield, a choir of 140 voices will be performing.

The benefit concert helps celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during this weekend observing the birthday of the civil rights leader.
