CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Powerball jackpot is continuing to grow.
The Powerball jackpot is currently up to 800 million dollars right now. If somehow you do end up with the lucky ticket Saturday night you may not want to cash it just yet.
Attorney Robert Ditusa told 22News you may even want to put this ticket in a safe deposit box at the bank to ensure it’s in a safe place. You have time before you have to cash the ticket, Attorney Ditusa says use that time wisely.
“Go ahead and assemble a team of professionals, that’s the smartest thing to do. You want to make sure you have a tax person, a financial advisor and a lawyer, put them all together in a room and get a plan together because again you have some decisions to make,” said Ditusa.
One of the biggest decisions you will make is whether you will take a cash payment up front or you’re whether you want to spread it out over 29 years.
Some winners have the option of staying anonymous but here in the state of Massachusetts that is not an option, you have to come forward.
If you want to stay anonymous you’ll have to buy your ticket in another state, only six states allow it. None of them are here in New England.
