CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Dangerous sex offenders could be living in your neighborhood, and you may not even know it.
That’s because of a new controversial Supreme Judicial Court ruling that may remove sex offenders from an online database. The ruling requires the Sex Offender Registry Board to present proof that a sex offender will strike again.
Samantha Malinowski of Chicopee told 22News this poses a serious threat to kids in her neighborhood. “If these guys say ‘Here, here, I have a piece of candy,’ these kids don’t know it. I believe they all should be registered and known to the public.”
This ruling could affect hundreds of cases.
In some cases, sex offenders are challenging their classification. The Sex Offender Registry Board is then required to remove their name from its online registry pending a new hearing.
