HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Eight men and women arrested during a drug bust in Holyoke Thursday were arraigned in Holyoke District Court Friday.
Holyoke Police Lt. Jim Albert told 22News the arrests were made as part of an investigation following recent heroin overdoses in the city. What they found during the raids of two apartment homes at 50 West Street were 1,800 bags of heroin stamped “Drop Dead.”
The suspects are mostly from Holyoke, while two are from Springfield. Five of them are being charged with trafficking heroin. Other charges include possession of the heroin and intent to distribute, as well as conspiracy to violate drug laws.
Lt. Albert said they also found cocaine, as well as several other types of pills including oxycodone and methadone.
There was one man at the site of the bust arrested on charges other than those of a drug-related nature. Lt. Albert said Juan Antonio Gonzalez was yelling and screaming on the sidewalk outside the apartments before exposing himself to the police detectives and nearby residents. Consequently, he was charged with open and gross and disorderly conduct. He was released on personal recognizance following his arraignment.
Bail for other suspects ranged from $50,000 for Emmanuel Soto of Springfield, Maribel Roman of Holyoke, Osmo Caraballo Cruz of Holyoke, and Izaida Gonzalez of Holyoke, to $500 for Adalberto Camacho of Holyoke. Miguel Robles of Holyoke had his bail set at $25,000, while bail for Jose Rivera of Springfield was set at $10,000.
All suspects are due back in court on February 1.
