SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police are investigating a shooting that happened in the City’s East Forest Park neighborhood, Friday afternoon.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News a 27-year-old man was shot inside of a car parked in the area of 126 Island Pond Road around 3:41 Friday He said the man was conscious and talking when police got there.
According to Springfield Police Lt. Lawrence Akers, the victim was sitting in the passenger seat when he was shot in the upper body. He was rushed to Baystate Medical Center, where he will undergo surgery.
“It’s very distressing, said Kathleen Walsh of East Forest Park. “Typically this is a very popular gathering area for many folks in the neighborhood. In a sense, its like Cheers of our neighborhood.”
Sgt. Delaney said the victim identified the shooter to police., and the investigation is still ongoing.
