Construction projects continue due to mild winter weather

Some paving companies were able to work into December

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) –  We haven’t seen much snow and ice at all so far this winter. In fact you can still find green grass in many locations.

And because of the milder temperatures and the lack of snow many construction projects continue. Along Route 57 in Agawam a six mile transmission water main replacement project is ongoing due to the good weather.

Paving companies Like Longhi Asphalt Paving in Agawam have also benefited from this winter’s milder than normal weather.

“We paved a couple of weeks longer than normal last year we had early snow it got really cold. We closed around the first week of December this year went into the third week of December,” said Nick Longhi, owner of Nick Longhi Asphalt Paving.

Longhi says we didn’t really get a hard frost until after Christmas and that’s why many digging projects have been able to continue.

And with the milder weather some people have been able to do things outside they normally wouldn’t be able to do this time of year.

“We’re still grilling and we’re not shoveling to get to the grill and it’s awesome,” said Kimberly Brochu of Chicopee.

“Yes, I play golf in my backyard,” said Sophia Letkowska of Springfield.

But if you’re a winter lover and a skier at least it’s been cold enough at night to make snow.
