CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Police said they arrested two men on drug charges during a search of a home on the second floor of 44 Park Street.
Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News police seized more than 300 bags of heroin along with cocaine, drug paraphernalia and cash. He said some of the heroin they found had markings on it that were attributed to a deadly overdose in Chicopee.
Wilk said 48-year-old Enrique Baerga Jr. was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug and with possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug. Both of those charges were subsequent offenses. In addition, Baerga was charged with drug violation near a school or park, and resisting arrest.
Also arrested was 46-year-old Julio Rivera-Maldanado who was charged with distribution of a Class A drug, with possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug, and with possession to distribute a Class B drug. Similarly, these drug charges were subsequent offenses for Maldanado. He was also charged with drug violation near a school or park and resisting arrest.
Once detectives from the Chicopee Police Narcotics Unit arrived at the Park Street residence, Wilk said one of the suspects escaped through a window on to the roof. Police had to go on the roof to bring him back inside. The other suspect was found in the kitchen and did not listen to officers who told him to get down on the ground and show his hands.
Both men are scheduled to be in Chicopee District Court for their arraignment Friday morning.
