CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee Police say they’ve arrested a man who was caught in the process of breaking into a home on Chapel Street.
Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk said the man, 28-year-old Christopher Libardi, was seen by a witness who called the police and told the dispatcher they believed Libardi had broken into a family member’s home. Wilk said Libardi was carrying a large backpack, and when the caller walked toward him, he began to walk away faster.

Wilk said the caller stayed on the line with the police dispatcher and provided updates to the officers who would eventually arrest him on Grattan Street. Libardi got rid of the backpack in a garbage as he walked away from the caller on Chapel Street. Later, Wilk said police found it in a trash can and the caller was able to identify the items in the backpack as those belonging to his family member.
Libardi is being charged with breaking and entering, a felony, and with larceny from a building. He is due in court Tuesday morning.
