Winter weather exposes the dangers of frostbite

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – If you’ve gone outside, you’ve probably noticed its much colder than usual. And it’s only supposed to get worse over the next few days. Temperatures Monday night are expected to hit the single digits and the wind could make it feel even colder.

Almost everyone 22News spoke with in downtown Springfield had their winter coats and gloves on, but some, like Jostavo Madina, said the cold air still caught them by surprise. “I turned the heat on a little higher, and I’ve been preparing the garage so I can put the car in when it snows.” Arlene Correa of Northampton said “I was ready for this but it is colder than usual.”

The cold weather can also be dangerous. Frostbite can occur outdoors in less than 30 minutes if it’s below 0°F and windy. You can stay on top of the temperatures by downloading our 22News Weather app.
