RUSSELL, Mass. (WWLP) – A stretch of Route 23 in western Hampden County is down to a single lane, due to a garbage truck fire.

State Police Sgt. Jody Greene told 22News that the truck caught fire shortly before 8:00 A.M. on Route 23 not far from the Route 20 intersection. No injuries were reported, and there is no word at this time on what caused the fire.

Route 23 had been completely shut down until around 10:30, when one lane was opened. It is not immediately clear when the truck will be hauled away and all traffic will be allowed to flow as normal.
