SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – In the last of 48 hours of suspected opiate-related medical emergencies, Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni is advising the public of the increased risk of overdose and death from the use of illicit opiates, including heroin.
District Attorney Gulluni said: “Family and friends of suspected opiate users should be advised of a potentially more lethal strain of heroin being distributed in the area.” Gulluni stressed awareness of the “Good Samaritan Law.”
The Good Samaritan Law ensures that people that call 911 to report an overdose for themselves or others will not be charged.
The Massachusetts State Police Unit is conducting an investigation into the production and distribution of the deadly strain of heroin.
