One person dead after crash in Agawam

Both drivers were alone in their cars

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – A tragic beginning to the new year in the town of Agawam.

A head-on car crash in the area of 233 Main Street around 6 P.M. Saturday had police and emergency crews working late into the night.

Police said 48-year-old Christopher Young was killed from the collision.  He was a resident of Agawam.

Agawam Police Lt. James Donovan said it was Young’s car that had gone into the opposite lane.

The driver of the second car involved in the crash, a woman who is also from Agawam but who has not been identified by police, was taken to Baystate Medical Center. The extent of her injuries has not been released.

Both drivers were alone in their cars at the time of the crash.

The State Police Accident Reconstruction Team helped in the investigation, but the cause of the crash has not been determined.
