NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts’ biggest New Year’s Eve party is in downtown Northampton, and thousands will greet 2016 by listening to bands, watching performances, and of course, seeing the ball rise above the Hotel Northampton. The festivities start Thursday at noon with family-friendly activities, fireworks are at 6:15, and the entertainment continues up to the countdown at midnight.

You need a First Night button to take part in the activities. Those can be purchased online until the end of the day Wednesday by clicking here– you can then pick up your button at the First Night Box Office on the second floor of Thornes Marketplace. On New Year’s Eve, there are buttons available for sale at the box office, as well as at the State Street Fruit Store, and the Hotel Northampton. Free parking in all downtown Northampton lots, except for the E.J. Gare parking garage. Smith College parking lots are also free and open to the public. Parking also available at the Forbes Library, Northampton Senior Center, and the World War II Club. Parking at the E.J. Gare garage, as well as the adjacent parking lots, will be restricted between 5:45 and 6:45 P.M. due to the fireworks.
There is a huge range of performances at First Night Northampton 2016, from acrobatics and dance, to puppet and magic shows, to rock and roll and folk concerts. Click here for a schedule and a map of venues.
The fireworks go off at 6:15 from the top of the E.J. Gare Parking Garage- fireworks are visible from all over town.
The ball raising will take place at midnight atop the Hotel Northampton, located at Main and King Streets downtown.
