CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Winter Weather Advisory is still in effect until 7PM for Berkshire County, but the advisory has been lifted for Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin Counties. There is, however a Freezing Rain Advisory for those three counties.
- Parking bans in effect across western Massachusetts
- Snow/sleet totals from across western Massachusetts
The Mass. Pike I-90 from the New York State line through Exit 9 in Sturbridge remains at a speed restriction of 40 mph, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
The main concern for the rest of the day is the freezing rain and freezing drizzle leading to very icy conditions, especially on untreated surfaces.
We expect the worst icing in western Hampden, western Hampshire and western Franklin county and eastern Berkshire County where more than 1/4 inch of ice accumulation is possible. We don’t anticipate any additional snow/sleet accumulation. Here are the accumulation reports we’ve had so far. Send your pictures or reports to firstname.lastname@example.org
As temperatures begin to warm up above the freezing mark throughout the afternoon, the freezing rain will begin to change over to plain scattered rain showers during the afternoon, with still the chance though for pockets of freezing drizzle.
All wet weather will be coming to an end late Tuesday evening. Tuesday’s highs will be in the mid 30’s.
Tonight there’s a slight chance for some leftover freezing drizzle, but drier air moves in overnight. Overnight lows for Tuesday will be in the upper 20’s and lower 30’s.
