(WJBF) – Fresh veggies, weight loss programs and gym memberships can add up.
Losing weight doesn’t have to mean forking over the cash.
“Chicken is a really good inexpensive lean protein, in terms of carbs, I would say brown rice is a really good way to go. You can also get your carbs from black beans,” healthy food blogger, Anna Aligood explained.
Health food blogger, Anna Aligood lost 50 pounds by switching to healthier food options. She now documents her experience through her “CharmedWellness.com” blog.
She says, low sodium or no salt added canned veggies can save shoppers tons of money.
She says, you have to hold yourself accountable.
Something that helps Aligood is planning out her meals for the entire week. That way, the hard work is already done.
“When people get home from work they’re tired, so one of the tactics that I’ve employed is actually doing all my meal prep on Sundays,” she said.
If you’re looking for more of a physical approach, Family Y Director, Michael Clark says it starts from within.
“Well first we have the person themselves that has the motivation to actually want to start the program and the other is accountability,” Clark explained.
He says it helps to have a workout buddy that will push you to stay on track.
“One of the things you need to focus on is having a short term goal and a long term goal, and one of the best things that you can do is actually walking or running,” he said.
Clark says start small and build up. You don’t have to be a member at a gym, you can work out in your own neighborhood or back yard.
“What you would do is you would find your pace of how long you went, and how long it took you, and next week try to beat that, and continue to increase those increments,” he explained.
Both Clark and Aligood say it’s important to keep track of what you eat.
If you have a smart phone, there are several free apps that will do that for you.
One of the most popular apps is called ‘My Fitness Pal” this app will track your calories with the scan of a barcode.
