CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – All the salt used this week in preparation for the first snowfall of the season in western Mass. can build up on your car, and cause some damage.
Tim Andrew of Tyre Trak in Springfield told 22News salt is one of the worst corrosives you can have on your car. Most drivers worry about the salt eating away at the paint.
What’s worse is what’s happening underneath your car. If your car isn’t cared for, salt residue can rust or rot the metal, affecting how your car operates.
“When you get a nice warm day, or a half warm day, either wash it or bring it down to the car wash. And that’s a good thing to do as often as you can,” said Andrew.
Thoroughly clean the underside of your car at least once a month. Experts say you’re less likely to face even bigger car problems this winter if you clean it regularly.
