Clear the snow off your vehicle or face a fine

It’s a hazard and it’s illegal

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – With Tuesday’s snow and ice, it’s important to remember to clear off your cars before you start driving.

Our 22News crew saw several cars on the road with the snow still on the roof. Not only is it dangerous, it’s actually illegal for trucks and cars to drive around with snow on them in Massachusetts.

It’s a hazard. Packed snow and ice can fly off the roof onto the car behind you, covering or breaking their windshield.

Phillip Rodrigues of Chicopee told 22News, “People with snow on their roofs, on their windows, on everything. I think it’s just pure laziness.”

Regardless of the reason, if you don’t remove the snow from the top of your car, you could be fined $200.
