Average Massachusetts gas price lowest since 2009

Triple A says self-serve, regular dropped 2 cents per gallon in the past week to an average of $1.98

CHICOPEE Mass. (WWLP) – The average price of a gallon of gas in Massachusetts has dropped below $2 for the first time in almost seven years.

Triple A says self-serve, regular dropped 2 cents per gallon in the past week to an average of $1.98. That’s the lowest level since April 2009.

One driver told 22News what he plans to do with the money that he’s saving at the pump. “I feel great about it, seeing as I’m able to buy more things outside of gasoline and I can do more traveling and visit more family.”

The current price is a dime lower than a month ago, 48 cents lower than a year ago, and a penny below the national average.
