Driver still in very critical condition following Chicopee crash

Charles Harris of Huntington was found unconscious, badly hurt

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The driver of a car that crashed into a tree off New Ludlow Road in Chicopee Thursday morning remains in very critical condition at the hospital, police say. Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News that 34 year-old Charles Harris of Huntington is in the surgical intensive care unit at Baystate Medical Center.

Wilk says that shortly before 3:00 Thursday morning, Harris went off the roadway and crashed into a wooded area. He was unconscious and badly hurt when emergency workers found him.

An accident reconstruction team had been called in to look into the cause of the crash, which has still not yet been determined. The roadway was closed for about six hours following the accident.
