SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Drivers on Page Boulevard were slowed during the Friday morning commute, due to the cleanup of a diesel fuel spill caused by a crash. Dennis Leger, aide to the Springfield fire commissioner, told 22News that a tractor trailer hauling mail and a Honda Civic collided near 1434 Page Boulevard at around 6:45 Friday morning.
Leger said that the impact was right at the 100-gallon saddle tank of the mail truck, causing fuel to spill onto the roadway.
The Fire Department’s Office of Emergency Preparedness, as well as the Department of Environmental Protection were called in for the cleanup. Leger says it is believed that they were able to contain the spill before any fuel could leak into the nearby storm drains.
There was a short detour in the immediate area of the crash, causing traffic to slow. Everything has now been cleared away, and traffic is flowing freely.
Leger said that there were no serious injuries in the crash.
