Police can’t find woman and child reported hit by car in Springfield

There were no victims found at the hospital, and no damage.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police were investigating a report of a hit and run accident Monday night, possibly involving a woman and a baby.

Springfield Police Sgt. Vincent Spagnolo told 22News the incident was reported before 10:30 p.m. Monday on Sumner Avenue near the “X.”

According to Springfield Police Lt. Philip Tarpey, police went to local hospitals to see if any victims were being treated, but no victims had shown as of 11:00 p.m.

22News spoke with Springfield Police Lt. Richard LaBelle after midnight.  Lt. Labelle told 22News that the officers on the preceding shift had investigated witness reports of an accident where the alleged victims got into a car and left.

“They found no victims, no damage, and nothing to report,” said Lt. Labelle.  “It appears to be a non-event.”
