WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – ‘Tis the season for saving. Not only heating bills but gas prices have been down as well this year.
Some extra saved up cash is always nice, especially during the holiday season.
According to Triple-A, gas prices nationwide have been averaging about two dollars a gallon, down 24 percent from last year. And according to the government, the average household has an extra $660 dollars to spend this year because of cheaper gas.
Annetta Ruby, from Chicopee, told 22News she is loving the lower prices here in western Massachusetts, “I hope it continues to drop because it really is very helpful for a lot of people who have financial problems at the time being the holidays.”
David Griffith, also from Chicopee, agreed, “It’s great it should have happened a long time ago.”
Not only are people saving money from gas prices being so low but its shaping up to be a good winter for those who heat their home with natural gas and oil.
According to the Energy Department, the retail price for heating oil for December, January and February, could average out to $2.40 a gallon.
Mild temperatures have created less demand for heat.
Joshua Smith, Service Manager at Berkshire Heating & Air Conditioning, added to the lower heating prices as well, “Yes people are saving money right now with the demand for fuel and natural gas isn’t as high as it typically is during this season.”
With prices being so low right now, if any repairs or checks that need to be done before winter, now would be the perfect time.
We’re seeing gas prices here in western Massachusetts being below 2 dollars a gallon more and more too.
