CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The 22News toys for tots lobby was a favorite destination today. Families determined to brighten the Christmas season for needy children brought something nice.
From the moment the doors to the toys for tots lobby opened Sunday morning, people from many western Massachusetts cities and towns came by to drop off their gifts.
Ludlow High School students brought a truck load of bikes to insure holiday happiness for some needy children. “Every year we donate usually a thousand dollars with toys and everything. This year we spent most of the money on bikes” said Felicia Robare.
Most parents came with their children who carried the gifts into the toys for tots lobby. Parents were sending their children a message about helping others.
“It’s a lesson in giving for the season. You don’t often get to do it, so it’s nice to see all the toys other people are giving,” said Colleen Picard of Southwick.
10 year old Eric Martins of Chicopee donated to toys for tots a favorite gift he had been given for Christmas. “It’s good to show Christmas spirit and donations to the people who don’t have what we have,” said Martins.
This may seem like Toys for Tots has met its mission, but when you consider the U.S. Marines distributed 95,000 toys a year ago, we need your help to continuing filling the 22news lobby.
It’s come down to a final day, Monday. 22News will be accepting Toys for Tots gift all day from 9 in the morning until 7PM.
Won’t you help 22News and the U.S. Marines assure Christmas presents for every needy child in Western Massachusetts. Only you can help reach that goal. One more day. If you haven’t given yet, we’ll see you on Monday.
You can drop-off donations in our lobby, at 1 Broadcast Center in Chicopee. We are conveniently located right off Exit 3 of Interstate 391.
Here are the final drop-off hours for our 22News Broadcast Center:
December 14: 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.
