SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Monday December, 14th is expected to be the busiest shipping day of the year. If you don’t want to pay extra, you have less than a week to send your packages.
If you want your package to make it in time for Christmas the USPS says it has to be shipped by Tuesday December 15th.
That date is for regular shipping, you can always pay more to have it shipped later. If you ship with UPS, Friday, December 18th is the deadline for your gifts to arrive by Christmas, without paying for more than 3 day shipping.
Nationwide, the United States Postal Service predicts delivering more than 600 million packages over the holiday season.
Many delivery services including UPS and USPS offer online tools to help you figure out exactly how much it will cost and when your package would arrive.
“This is the first year that I’m actually doing a lot of ordering online for things that I’m not going to ship. Things that I am going to ship I actually have already but I had no idea it was Tuesday, glad to find that out and now I need to get moving faster than I was anticipating,” said Paula Quinn of Springfield.
A record breaking Cyber Monday could also impact your package arriving on time.
That rush could turn into delays in shipping.
“I tried to get everything out by Friday, I had a situation a couple years ago where I ordered some stuff for my daughters and it didn’t come on time so I’m super sensitive to that,” said Dawn Creighton of Williamsburg.
In 2013 some retailers had to refund consumers because packages didn’t make it on time.
