Local business helps family still struggling to recover from 2011 tornado

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Tornado recovery continues in one of Springfield’s hardest hit neighborhoods, Maple High-Six Corners.

The Mulero family struggles to return their damaged home to the livable condition it was in before June 1st, 2011.

Margarita Mulero told 22News she appreciates help from neighborhood organizations to help restore her father’s house, but the emotional scars left by the twister may never heal.

“It’s emotional too, it’s psychological and that never really never goes away and when you see the news, you see anything close to it, it scares you,” said Mulero.

She’s grateful to Baystate Rug and Flooring Company for providing her family a new first floor fireplace and flooring, free of charge.

Mulero turned to local businesses for help when federal emergency relief funds were slow to arrive.
