SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Seasonal blues are very common during the winter time. 22News is working for you with why this season might not be so blue.
Many people already have noticed the difference in the air because of the warmer temperatures for December.
Mild air in December allows more people to get out, take advantage of the weather, and even get some extra exercise in outdoors.
People might also be less “cranky” because they’re not dealing with the cold and aren’t shoveling snow. This helps some people feel a little better, especially as winter approaches.
There are people who do get severely depressed due to the limited light this time.
22News talked to Dr. Benjamin Liptzin, Staff Psychiatrist at Baystate Medical Center, “Many people winter is a more difficult time, it’s dark when you get out of work, dark in the morning when you get up for work, its not as enjoyable.”
For people who do get severely depressed keeping a bright light in your house will help make up for the light we won’t be getting.
Days will have more daylight after December 22nd.
The mild air that we have been feeling as made some people feel a little better than usual.
