SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police chased a man dressed in a postal delivery person’s uniform who was caught making a “reverse delivery” in East Forest Park Thursday morning.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that a Burnside Street resident saw a man wearing a postal worker’s outfit taking a package from his front porch on Burnside Terrace at about 9:45 a.m. Thursday.
“The resident chased the suspect, and encountered an “extra duty” officer who stopped directing traffic and called for backup,” Sgt. Delaney said.
A police dog was brought in to track the suspect, but the trail ended at Eloise Street, leading police to believe he got in a car and took off.
Delaney said the suspect took off the mailman uniform and dropped the bag of packages he was carrying.
“Police will inspect the uniform and other items for fingerprints and DNA evidence,” Delaney said.
Delaney urges Springfield residents to watch out for suspicious activity, and keep an eye on their neighbors’ homes. “We have to watch out for each other.”
