Deadly stabbing in West Springfield Friday night

DA: Murder the result of domestic dispute

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – An argument between two women turned violent at a home on Chester Street in West Springfield Friday night into Saturday.

Police say Cristen Longley of West Springfield stabbed 30-year-old Jennifer Best in the chest on Chester Street. Best was rushed to Baystate Medical Center, but it was too late to save her life.

Longley is charged with murder.

West Springfield Police Captain Daniel Spaulding told 22News, the victim and the suspect knew each other, but did not live together.

It all started on Friday night, after an argument turned violent. Neighbors were shocked to hear the news.

Jenny Davis said, “I feel this is a really safe neighborhood, and I love it here.”

Johnathan Camp said, “Such a sad thing to hear about such a young person, something like that happening around here. You would never think that would happen. My heart goes out to the family.”

22News spoke with Mohammad Isahaq, owner of the Convenience Mart nearby. He said the victim was a customer and that he’s shocked that something like that happened in this neighborhood. “Yeah she comes here once a while, but yeah, I didn’t know that happened since last night. So I was really surprised.”

Cristen Longley will appear in Springfield District Court Monday to face murder charges.

Longtime friend Rachel Cody of West Springfield told 22News, Best has three children; ages 9, 7 and 1. Cody was too upset to talk on camera, but says the oldest children are with their father.
