Holiday Market now open in downtown Springfield

Vacant storefronts turned into shops for local artisans

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – When the last Parade of the Big Balloons marching unit went by, many parade-goers went to Tower Square for the first Downtown Springfield Holiday Market.

Through December 23, retailers and artisans now occupy once-vacant storefronts. The Artists’ Pop Up Shop displaying the work of 25 Springfield artists became an instant hit with partygoers.

“It’s just beautiful. Northampton is not the only one with culture, I feel there’s a lot of cultured residents who live in Springfield,” Lionel Villanueva of Chicopee said.

“I really hope to see the art world encourage people to check it out, and hopefully, there’s someone to give a gift of ours,” said artist pop up shop owner Ashley Pereira.

Pereira is hopeful of doing so well during the next month that the first floor storefront at Tower Square will become the permanent home of the Artists’ Pop Up Shop.
