How one local retail store plans to compete on Black Friday

Wilson's will be operating all 14 of their cash registers

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s that time of year when people realize what they’re thankful for with friends and family before heading off to shop for big discounts the next day.

Black Friday bargains aren’t just available at the big-box stores. Wilson’s Department store in Greenfield also sees its share of shoppers. “People, perhaps, will go to those big-box stores at the crazy hours that they open, whether it’s four or five or whenever in the morning, but then they will come back to shop in downtown Greenfield. We find that happens every year,” said Tamara Beauregard, vice president of Wilson’s.

Bearegard told 22News, Black Friday is an important day for Wilson’s, which is why they’ll have all hands on deck with all 14 cash registers operating. One person told 22News, there are benefits to shopping at the smaller stores on Black Friday. “You’re supporting local stores, for one. You’re not going to be stuck camping outside big stores; you’re not going to have to deal with parking, people,” said Laurel Donnelly of Orange.

Wilson’s will open at 9 Friday morning, which is one hour earlier than usual. Wilson’s also plans to have sales for Small Business Saturday.
