State police remind drivers traffic is not the place to be on your cell phones.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Tommorow is known as one of the busiest travel days of the year, If you are planning on heading out for Thanksgiving travels Wednesday, you may want to think about actually leaving Tuesday night if possible.

MassDOT and state police said the worst hours to travel will be between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. They are advising drivers to leave Tuesday night if they can, if not, leave early Wednesday morning. One driver told 22News she will be avoiding the roads completely Wednesday.

“The roads will probably be much more congested tomorrow than they are today,” said Mary Anna King, a Connecticut resident. “Especially if it’s this time of the day because people will be waiting until after work.”

If you plan on leaving Wednesday night, the MassDOT and state police say wait until after 8:00 p.m. to avoid traffic. Police also want to remind drivers that if you are stuck in traffic, that is not the time to be on your cell phones.
