HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Traffic is finally starting to ease on Interstate 91 between Northampton and Holyoke, several hours after a garbage truck fire disrupted the morning commute.

All lanes of the highway had been shut down, and traffic was being diverted at Exit 18 in Northampton Tuesday morning due to the firefighting effort. Photos sent to 22News through our Report It feature showed heavy smoke coming out of the truck, burning not far from the Wyckoff Country Club. The detour ended after about two hours, but traffic remained crawling between Exits 18 and 17, as only one lane of traffic was getting by near the fire.

All lanes were finally re-opened by 1:00 P.M., but backups continued as the traffic flow caught up.

No injuries were reported in the fire, State Police say.
