CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Thanksgiving came early Sunday for hundreds of seniors in Chicopee.
The Moose Family Center prepared a hot Thanksgiving meal for about 600 area seniors. From noon to three, these area residents were served turkey with all the trimmings.
It’s a sense of community service that has been instilled in generations of Moose members. Here in Chicopee, they’ve been cooking this meal annually for more than 20 years.
Norman Moreau of Chicopee told 22News he’s been eating this annual meal for the past decade. Moreau said, “It’s a wonderful way for the Moose Lodge to do something for the community, which they always do anyways. That’s the background of a Moose. They give. It’s a family oriented group and we are now a family. A family of people eating.”
Organizer Dan Summers told 22News the meal is provided free of charge as a way to show their appreciation to the community.
