Fire destroys Springfield home

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A home in Springfield’s Upper Hill neighborhood is destroyed from an overnight fire that also caused extensive damage to surrounding homes. Springfield Fire Spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News the fire started just before 11:30 Saturday night at 109 Suffolk Street, which is an abandoned house under renovation. Leger said there was a fire at this same house two years ago. Saturday night’s fire was so hot it quickly destroyed the home.

A family living next door at 105 Suffolk Street had to be evacuated temporarily and their house was damaged in the fire. Leger said the fire also caused damage to 111 Suffolk Street, which is not occupied, and is for sale.

The fire also damaged the siding at 112 Suffolk Street, which is across the street.

The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad is investigating the fire, which Leger said appears to be suspicious, because the house is abandoned, and no electricity was going to the house. No one was hurt in the fire.
